Ten Years Gone

Last night Fiona and I went out for a meal at one of our favourite restaurants - The Old Bill, in the town where we live.

Incidentally, the picture (left) isn't of last night's meal, it's us in a place called Protea Banks, in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, where we did a diving tour (including Aliwal Shoal & Sodwana Bay) a few years ago. In fact I'll clear that up right now: we are not in the habit of turning up at restaurants in our wetsuits!

The occasion was our 10th wedding anniversary and yes, I'm the luckiest guy in the world to have met and married her.

The restaurant is owned by Marco, an affable Italian and a superb cook, whom we've happily come to know well in the number of times we've eaten there - actually him and his daughter, who's also the main chef there.

Maybe it's because it's a family owned/run affair that the service is always excellent - personal without being cloying  - and the sheer variety of food on the menu is impressive to say the least.

Nice touch as well last night, too: Marco waited until all the other guests had left before locking the doors, buying us drinks and giving us the benefit of his company - and then driving us home!

Beat that for service!

  1. Aw Bren, she's such a cutie, congratulations to the both of you. How cool is that, diving together, I watched Jack Custard as a kid, but that's as close as I've come to inner space.

Tin? Groovy, did you buy each other tins of er, tin?

Thanks for sharing, this has put a big smile on my face!

  4. Well congrats to you and your fella Gillian! Have a good one. If you've been as happy as we've been, it'll have been a great ten years - here's to the next ten for us both!
